Why it’s in the stack
Heme iron polypeptide absorbs ~10× better than ferrous sulfate, isn't blocked by phytates / calcium / coffee, and rarely causes the constipation/nausea of non-heme iron. Bryan splits 2× daily because heme iron has a saturable absorption curve.
Second daily dose. Heme iron has a saturable absorption curve — splitting 21 mg total into two ~10 mg doses absorbs more than one large dose.
Caveats
- Sex-sensitive: men with normal ferritin generally shouldn't supplement iron (overload risk). Menstruating women may need more. Test ferritin before starting.
- Take apart from calcium, coffee/tea, and zinc — they block iron absorption.
